From the Around the Corner newsletter, Issue 2:
I love to hop! It is all I have wanted to do ever since I was a tadpole. I waited forever to grow legs so that I could start jumping lessons and hop out of the pond with my friends.
But one of my legs is shorter than the others and I have trouble controlling the direction of my hops. When I first tried to hop, it was awful! No matter where I aimed, I always landed somewhere else. I crashed into bushes, and one time I landed in a big mud puddle and splashed the jumping coach. Boy, was he mad! Coach told me he didn't think I'd ever be able to hop.
I had to make a choice. I could give up on my dream of hopping, or I could figure out a way that worked for me. So I practiced and practiced and practiced. It was hard work. There were times I wanted to give up, but I was determined to do it. Finally, I figured out that if I turned sideways, I could push off with my long, strong leg and control my hops that way. I've been hopping ever since.
See you Around the Corner.
