Baxter's Corner will be at Cabbage Patch Settlement House this afternoon for a publishing party to celebrate completion of a new story, Babies & Bananas, written by 12 participants of a week-long Young Storyteller Camp.
The youth collaborated on the story and provided illustrations. From the history of storytelling to the elements of a good story, the campers explored plot and character development, scene details, word choice and editing.
Local author, Linda Baker (Chief Pencil) and illustrator, Mary Ellen Stottmann (Chief Crayon), co-owners of Baxter’s Corner, led daily workshop sessions and produced the booklet format of the story each camper will receive. This is the third summer that Baxter's Corner has presented the writing camp at Cabbage Patch.
The story is the third in a youth-authored series by Cabbage Patch campers. The series, Tales from the Patch, was created by Baxter’s Corner. Proceeds of the sales of the books benefit the Patch. The first book in the series, Going Bananas in Space (ISBN 978-1-938647-10-9), was released in late 2015. The second book, The Catasterous Cruise, is scheduled for release this fall. Babies & Bananas will be professionally designed and printed for release next year.
