Baxter's Corner To Lead Second Storyteller Camp
For the second year in a row, Baxter's Corner will lead the Young Storytellers Camp at Cabbage Patch Settlement House June 22 - 26. With the guidance of artist Mary Ellen Stottmann and author Linda Baker, the campers will explore the history of storytelling and the elements of a good story, including plot and character development, scene details, word choice and editing. Baxter's Corner Sponsors Expressive Therapy Program for Children
Baxter's Corner was one of a group of sponsors of The Morton Center's luncheon on September 30, 2014, to raise funds for the Center's Expressive Art Therapy Program for children. As a table sponsor of the Words Are Not Enough event, Baxter's Corner produced laminated placemats featuring artwork by children in the program. One of the Center's therapists used the artwork to explain how art therapy is used to assist children whose families are struggling with substance abuse issues. Cabbage Patch Campers Go Bananas at Launch Party
Baxter's Corner and Cabbage Patch Settlement House hosted a launch party to celebrate the completion of GOING BANANAS IN SPACE, a story written by 11 youth at the Patch’s Young Storyteller Camp this week. The youth collaborated on the story and provided illustrations. From the history of storytelling to the elements of a good story, the campers explored plot and character development, scene details, word choice and editing. Baxter's Corner met with educators from the state as an exhibitor at the annual Kentucky Council of Teachers of English and Language Arts conference held in Covington, Ky, February 22-23, 2013.
